REVISED DRAFT POLICY ON CENTRAL LEADERSHIP – NOW OPEN FOR MEMBERSHIP COMMENT
Water New Zealand draft policies are considered by the Board, and then made open for membership feedback and comment before being ratified. If an existing policy is substantively modified, it will be subjected to this consultation process again. The Board has reviewed and substantively revised its policy on central leadership, and therefore invites feedback and comment from members. The draft policy can be viewed here.

Dairy Water Plans Denied - Controversial dairying developments in the Upper Waitaki valley have failed to get irrigation consents. Environment Canterbury-appointed independent hearings commissioner Paul Rogers announced yesterday that the applications of three companies – Southdown Holdings, Williamson Holdings and Five Rivers – to collectively irrigate more than 5300 hectares of land have been turned down. Waste Recycling Pilot Awarded to City - Palmerston North's struggling wastewater treatment plant has been chosen for a $1 million pilot scheme to recycle waste sludge into re-useable chemical by-products. Environment Minister Nick Smith announced government funding for the project in the city this morning. Read more.
Stratford Water Costs to Double - High water users connected to Stratford's supply could see their water rates double in the next financial year. The Stratford District Council voted in favour of a proposal to charge businesses $1.20 per cubic metre, up from 61c, while also using a targeted rate reserve to smooth the burden for all water users. Ministry water guide described as 'crock' - An Environment Ministry's guide to implementing the national policy statement for fresh water management has been described by the Otago Regional Council as a "crock" and full of inconsistencies. Read more.
River group loses battle against sewage - Permission has been given for New Plymouth District Council to pump Waitara and New Plymouth sewage during the building of a $14 million pipeline and then for 30 years from the treatment plants of both towns. Read more.

The Ministry of Health has provided clarification on timelines for completion of S12 of the drinking water standard for rural agricultural water supplies.
