New Zealand Modelling takes centre stage at the CIWEM/WaPUG Autumn conference in the UK.

Myles Lind of Watercare Services in Auckland and Andy Gibson of MWH received the award for "Best Overall Paper” award at the prestigious CIWEM / WaPUG Autumn conference held in the UK at the beginning of November.

This conference is synonymous globally with leading-edge drainage planning and modelling and only the best of the best receive this award. Consequently, it is with great pride that   New Zealand presenters are able to bring home this award.

The paper, entitled Project Storm 2: Planning The Future of Auckland, outlined the wastewater network project which has spanned three years and provided a focus on exploring the lessons learnt in undertaking a third generation model refurbishment project. The paper also highlighted how the Project Storm 2 model is being used to plan and shape the future of Auckland's wastewater infrastructure, meeting sustainable performance outcomes for least whole of life cost.

Look out for the full details of the win and the paper itself, in the next issue of the Journal, due out in March 2010.

Standards NZ
Land Development and Subdivision draft standard (DZ 4404)

The revised draft standard for Land Development and Subdivision is now available for public comment until 5 February 2010. The review has been more than simply an update to the 2004 version. There are significant changes, particularly in the Stormwater and roading sections. It proposes to change the emphasis on how stormwater is managed with low impact design solutions being the preferred approach together with a requirement to consider climate change and sea level rise. The wastewater and water supply sections have also been updated.
