In this issue we feature staff from the New Zealand Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team who flew out to help identify people killed in the horrific bushfires in South Australia. They were later joined by Police victim recovery dogs and their handlers. The team describe what they've witnessed as "absolute devastation".

Our 'focus' this month is on road safety - with a story from each of the islands to illustrate Police campaigns. In Operation Rose four central North Island Police districts joined forces over summer to tackle drink-driving. At checkpoints nearly 36,000 compulsory breath tests were taken and 297 people face prosecution as a result - getting the message across that drink-drivers will be caught.

In the South Island a five-month campaign that kicked off in February aims to make State Highway One a safer place to drive. Operation Tāhi will focus on several themes, including speed around schools, drunk/drugged driving, as well as heavy motor vehicles.

Among other topics this Community Edition features the development of a new team to tackle the exploitation of children through the internet, Fraud Awareness Week, the success of White Ribbon Day and the training of Police officers in Taser use.
